The Comeback of Fiat Cinquecento

Fiat launched its new version of the three-door Cinquecento in its hometown of Turin recently. Fiat’s Cinquecento means “500” in Italian. It is one of Italy’s most well recognized icons in the car industry. The original Cinquecento or Fiat 500 was produced in 1957. After 18 years on the road, the Cinquecento went out of production in 1975. Nevertheless, the car still putters along the streets of European cities and elsewhere.

The new Cinquecento is slightly bigger than the original. New Cinquecento is part of the aim of Fiat’s chief executive to emulate Apple by making its cars as stylish as the U.S. Company’s computers and electronic gadgets, including the iPod portable music player. Regardless of whether its branding exercise or marketing strategy is successful or not, the comeback of Cinquecento after 32 years is very significant to the industry and also its enthusiasts.
