Alonso’s Excuse

fernando_alonso_2006_malaysia.jpg McLaren’s Fernando Alonso lashed out at Ferrari’s Felipe Massa for costing him his championship win in his home race in the Spanish Grand Prix. He claimed that Massa drove dangerously with disregard to safety and didn’t give way when Alonso was on the outside and much in front of him. Their cars touched and they were both lucky not to retire at the first corner of the race. He claimed that his car was difficult to control after that incident.

Alonso nearly missed the podium in the race and only managed to secure third place after Kimi Raikkonen of Ferrari retired with an electrical fault. A whining, griping Alonso is not very good for his public image. If he were speaking from the first podium position, it would have garnered more serious attention. As it is, he sounds like a sore loser. Is Alonso feeling the pressure of being overshadowed by his team mate Louis Hamilton? He can’t blame his car or other racers every time. Unless he starts to win some races, he may be the shadow to the second man in his team. The title of a flash in the pan champion certainly doesn’t sit well with fiery and proud Alonso.
