The new Daihatsu Mira, the seventh generation of the series, has been fully redesigned and updated with a youthful look and high fuel efficiency. The updated works include the platform and the engine. Development sought to maintain the smart styling, space and utility that have long characterized the Mira while enhancing quality and value to a new level that far exceeds other vehicles in its class.

The lineup includes two vehicle types, each with its own distinctive characteristics: the Mira, which is based on the concept of “a high quality mini vehicle for city driving,” and the Mira Custom, based on the concept of a “premium personalized mini vehicle.”

Launched in Japan on Dec 18, the mini vehicle is touted as offering fuel efficiency of 27km/litre – the highest for a gasoline vehicle. With an exterior styling that comes with large headlights and conveys a sense of youthfulness, the Mira features two different engines from the Topaz Neo series. The KF-VE twin-cam DVVT1 three-cylinder engine adopts a long-stroke and compact combustion chamber to provide ample torque even at low and medium speeds and outstanding fuel efficiency, while the KF-DET twin-cam, three-cylinder turbo engine provides strong, smooth acceleration from starting up to high speed.

The CVT (continuously Variable Transmission) also adopts a compact input-speed reduction type three-shaft gear train system that is optimal for mini vehicles, contributing to excellent acceleration performance and high drive force transmission efficiency.

Meanwhile, the Daihatsu Idle Stop System automatically stops and re-starts the engine when the vehicle is stopped at traffic lights and in traffic congestion to increase fuel efficiency and reduce noise when idling.

Among the safety features are seven air bags, impact-absorbing materials in the pillar garnishes and roof interior, and VSC (Vehicle Stability control) that combines three control systems (traction control, ABS and sideway skidding control)

Daihatsu Mira

The Daihatsu Mira, also known as the Cuore, Domino or Charade outside of Japan, is a kei car class type vehicle which comes with a variety of options and chassis variations. The latest model has 4 ‘flavours’ and they are “Mira”, “Mira AVY”, “Mira Gino” and “Mira VAN”. The Mira is basically an upgraded and renamed version of the Daihatsu Fellow. In Australia the two-seater version was known as a handivan and later just Handi, and was sold alongside the names of Mira and Cuore. The commercial version was dropped when the Mira was released in later years as a Charade.
