What is the difference between a shoulder bag, messenger bag and record bag?

XDIsMyMiddleName asks:

They all look pretty similar. Is a messenger bag lighter, and a record bag more square? Please help!

a record bag is really pretty much a messenger bag but bigger. Shoulder bag is the ones without the long strap and only the ‘handle’. Messenger bags are used more for casual type.

  1. A shoulder bag is any bag that can be worn over your shoulder. It could have long or short straps and can be anything from a brief, a tote, a satchel, a man’s purse, or a woman’s handbag. You can find out more on this URL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoulder_bag ).

A messenger bag is also a kind of shoulder bag, which is worn cross body in mailman style. A typical messenger bag looks like this Briggs & Riley bag (http://www.briggs-riley.com/category/productDetail.aspx?id=Go-Messenger-Bag_VB410 ).

Record bags are made with the specific purpose of carrying music records and related items. You might see some professional deejays carrying such type of bags. A record bag could come in messenger style or backpack style.
