Unlike plants fungi are heterotrophic which means they can’t produce their food from basic molecules and ions. It has to be present as such (ie protein, carbohydrates, fats) so they can ingest it and use it to survive.

Keeping the place clean and dry ie not humid, will help keep down mold growth.

  1. All fungi derive energy from organic matter and not photosynthesis. they use the humidity to get water, so if you closet is very humid then get a dehumidifier and scrape off the mold. you should probably buy some type of nontoxic chemical that will kill the remaining mold spores.
