What happens when a ziploc bag melts in the microwave when reheating food in the bag?

I reheated some food for lunch in a ziploc bag. the bag melted, after 1.30 mins in the microwave. separated what was left of the bag from the food, but scared to eat it, as I am pregnant! Is it safe to eat?

Taste it, if it taste nasty or suspicious I would throw it away! Melted plastic is bad.

  1. I would just throw it out. Plasticisers have been proven to lead to cancer, and I wouldn’t risk it. That is very unhealthy, even if you aren’t pregnant.

  2. Chemicals are going into your food when this happens. There are special baggies made just for microwaving your food in them. NEVER use plastic to warm in the micro. At home, put a paper towel over your bowl to prevent splatters and also keep some heat in.
