Would a solid brass wastebasket act as a good Faraday cage?

Wastebasket

Wei asks:

Given that the top is also covered by some sort of solid brass? I am wondering how to make a cheap Faraday cage just in case one of those EMP pulses decides to saturate my neighborhood due to nuclear war. Also, as an addendum, would just a simple, tin cookie jar (the kind with clowns and unicorns on it) work?

  1. Sure. But there is something way batter against EMP in case of nuclear war: a lead casket. You get in there, the EMP can’t hurt you. And you don’t even have to leave any more. You are dead anyway.
