We have paint grade mdf baseboards. Should we use a paint brush or roller? What kind?
It is already installed.

I would use a good quality paint brush. Be sure to get the right brush for the type of paint you are using. There’s china bristle brushes made for oil base enamel and nylon or polyester brushes used for latex paints. Trust me, using the right brush will give you a professional finish and makes a big difference in performance. The paint store sales person can give you what you need and help you with your project. I personally would use a good quality oil base enamel for baseboards, It’s more durable and longer lasting and won’t wash or rub off. I have worked in building construction 40 yrs. I hope I have been of some help.
I agree with the answers. Brush. Equally important is type of paint. Oil, China bristle. Latex, nylon bristle. Maybe that is just a personal preference. Either way, 2-1/2″ wide with a angle.
Wooster and Purdy are quality brands.
For MDF I agree with answer # 1, even installed.
You can mask the wall above, and floor below, and use both a brush and foam WEENIE roller.
I paint, every day of my life and for your application, and my personal choice, I suggest spending the money of a 3 inch PURDY brush, appropriate to the paint formulation, IE: Latex or Oil. Zinser also makes a slightly less expensive, quality brush.

just my two “sense”
use a tappered camel hair brush. This allows you to paint close, without getting it on the wall of floor covering
It would be better to use a brush. Trying to paint fairly narrow strips with a roller would get paint everywhere. A brush would also give you a better coverage, which you will need on mdf if you want a good finish.
How many feet are you looking at painting. Is it installed already or still on the ground. If there was a lot and it wasn’t installed yet I would use a roller to prime and a small spray rig to paint….no brush or roller marks that way.
It depends on the design of the baseboard. when I built my house about a year ago I had over 2000 sq ft of moulding to paint. If its off the wall a small foam roller works good for a first coat and a paint brush for the second once its on the wall, other wise I would just use a paintbrush
