Run-through of the open source game Yo Frankie! This version of the game uses Blender’s internal game engine. Thanks to Benoit for all the development previous to the project which without I couldn’t have convinced Ton to allow us to use Blender’s game engine to salvage the last half of the project. The greatest success of the project is the impact its had, inspiring a surge of interest in and development of the BGE thanks to devs like Benoit, Brecht, and our very own Campbell who, it should be noted, no longer mocks the coolness of the BGE. Download the game and all the production files at www.yofrankie.org.
awesome game, God bless!
AWESOME!! CAN YOU MAKE A TUT (or tell me a link) to find out how I can make my game go to the next lvl once i get _ pickups? That would be awesome! PS, Im downloading Yo-Frankie right now
There aren’t many ge tutorials around.. To go to another level though, make the level a different scene and use the scene actuator to switch scenes. Use properties to keep track of how many pickups the main character has collected, and when the collection is full, run the scene switching actuator.
Ok, I’ll try that, ty
Nice work!!
check out my videos I’m making engine in c++.
Im kinda worried cause I heard alot about this game running ultra super duper slow
good graphics lol for a like small group game play seems pretty smooth might try it out
Looks a lot like TAK but either way looks awesome
sheep killer!!!LOL
@Schnitz1012 It might be lagging because you’re using too many polygons and putting too much resource-heavy stuff into there. Optimize everything and go easy on the amount of polygons in each model. Maybe then it will run a little more smoother.
This game doesn’t actually use Blender’s engine. It uses Crystal Space.
…According to Wiki
No, this is the blender game engine version. I’d know, I worked on it. I know you’re probably a CS fan so you don’t want this to be true, but there’s nothing I can do about that. CS is just plain dead in the water. The same paragraph in the wiki that says the CS engine was used, also says the decision was partially reversed and the blender game engine was used as well, not sure how you missed that.
i downloaded this game from their website, but its running slow as hell, and computer is not slow, i dont know if its supposed to be like that, or what
Alright calm down, so I made a mistake, there’s no need to turn against me. And I’m a blender fan actually. Always have been. I’ve never even heard of CS until I decided to look up YF in wiki.
Yeah it is pretty resource intensive. It also depends on what version of blender you’re using. Blender 249 has a lot of upgrades to the game engine that speed things up.. It runs pretty good on newer graphics cards, I get around 45fps at 1920×1080 res, with a geforce 8600gts 256mb.
Ah, the fabled Blender Game Engine – 2002 graphics on 2010 hardware. The things we can do with technology these days! Simply amazing!
Totally! At least it isn’t CS, that’s pretty much all I can say to that.
Ha! 2002 graphics? have you seen harry potter & the chamber of secrets? (ps1)
anyway with the crystal space 3d engine what is required to run it?
Cool!!
wow , you really do hate CS. no wander you got angry with me.
Ah but I love to hate it.
ahh the best blender game so far
i am very impressed
lava death is soo hard
