Whenever it rains a lot, it gets really damp in my basement. After a little while, these black moldy spots start spreading across the walls. Does anyone have any tips as to how to get rid of the mold, and perhaps prevent more mold from growing? Thanks a bunch!
Well… I don’t think I’ll be able to stop the damp very well. There are too many possible sources of rainwater seepage into my basement. I will clean my gutters again though. Thank you all for your suggestions!

I agree with handy, that’s what we did and also ran fans down in the basement after the rain to dry up the extra moisture on the walls.
Put bleach in a spray bottle and spray the entire wall. Dont rinse, it will dry just fine. Add a dehumidifier to the basement if possible and allow air to circulate via windows and fans. Good luck !
PS- you may have to scrub the walls, use hot water, bleach, detergent and a broom, works well.
once u get the mold out, get a large dehumidifier. and run it constantly in the summer.
try a DE-humidifier keep the moisture out and if possible find out where the leak is, or you can contact a house inspector,or a roofer
the only way to get rid of mold that is present is to spray it with bleach and then wire brush it bleach will kill mold
go to lowes or home depot there is a white sealer that you paint on surfaces that will work
Clean with a mild bleech solution mixed with water. Stop the moisture from entering the building. Gutters and downspouts clean, in good repair and in place?
There are to many unknowns to answer your question succinctly however cleaning surface mold is relatively easy it is the unseen mold that is the most difficult. Bleach and water cleaning followed by a rinsing however the source of the water/humidity has to be found and eliminated. Run a Dehumidifier in the basement to reduce the overall humidity in the basement. Close doors leading to the room with the mold in order to contain the air and allow the dehu to run regularly.
Get some X 14 at the store,,,blast it on,,walk away…kinda nasty (dont get on clothes) but it works great
You can get rid of the mold with many products spayed from a pump up sprayer. Even diluted pool chlorine should work. As far as prevention I can think of some but they’re not people friendly perhaps someone will come by who knows.
