Black & Decker MX217 PowerPro 250-Watt 6-Speed Handheld Mixer with Storage Case, Black

This is a crappy mixer all round. We got ours 2 months ago, paid like $20. I’ve used it exactly 3 times, twice to fluff mashed potatoes and today to make a quick bread mix. This mixer gave out completely in less than 2 minutes of regular mixing.
Called Black and Decker (actually the company that now makes their small applicances, Activia or something like that) and they said it was under warranty and offered to ship me another one.
At NO point during the conversation did the CSR mention that I’d be paying the company $10 for the “privilege” of replacing my $20 mixer. That was on a recorded message she made me listen to after I had given her all the relevant info. That amount added to what it would also cost me to ship part of the electrical cord to them to prove I had the item nearly makes up the entire price of the mixer all over again.
That was completely dishonest not to tell me up front about needing to send them a check. Needless to say I will not be sending them anything and I will NEVER buy anything with the Black and Decker name on it again.
This mixer was a disaster, a CHEAP ill-made item and the customer service at the company that makes them is even worse! Save your money. DON’T buy from them. This company is so NOT the Black and Decker of old and the quality of their items and customer service clearly reflects that!
FYI, my last mixer was a B&D and it lasted for nearly 15 years. I expected the same quality purchasing from them now.
So much for that!

Purchased this mixer to replace a Sunbeam that lasted for years. This mixer has to be illegally noisy. It drowns out a TV 20 feet away in another room with a wall separating the rooms. This is the 1st use, it will be returned.

This is a poor quality mixer. It is very loud and just not strong enough. It eventually broke after 3 months of use. Do not buy.

The power cord on this product contains lead. Lead poisoning is known to cause impaired brain function. The warning on the box recommends that you “wash hands after handling”. The mixer comes with a storage case. The mixer with the cord containing lead is stored in the container with the attachments. Do you want to use such a product to prepare food?

I saw the reviews and warnings below; even commented on them, but I needed a mixer TODAY so I dashed down to Walmart to get it.
I brought it home and looked all over for the warning, forgetting that it was on the bottom of the box.
I don’t know what to think of it, as I commented already; and feel sure that that warning is probably all over the place on any number of items we’ve all bought and purchased over the years and never knew was there. A part of me feels that if it truly was important then maybe the warning would be more prominent for the consumer or is that just wishful thinking and trying to give the benefit of the doubt? I’m not wanting to be cynical either! Geez..
Anyway, regarding the performance of the actual product itself, it is a good little item and the Walmart reviews for the same item are very high – the consumers are quite happy with it, deservedly so.
I did notice that one of my beaters had a ‘collar’ while the other did not. How odd..
Still they both seemed to click in and stay ‘locked’ so I guess it’s not a problem. Hope not.
I probably only need or use a mixer once a year anyway.
And, yes, I’ll wash my hands..
