Two years ago I decided to get rid of my old Sears Kenmore. Several small things broke (holding brackets) and the fridge needed a new fan. Also, due to it being old, it would get small rust dots on the white face. It was old, about 15 years but never broke.
I was also enamored with the new ’stainless steel’ look and went to Best Buy. This is where I located LG – at that time a relatively new manuacturer. I paid $1,079.99 for the LSC26905TT- mid range for fridges. My rep assured me LG was great and very reliable. I typically verify this before making a purchase, but did not this time. Now I am regretting it! I’m also an idiot for NOT getting the extended warranty.
Fast forward just two years. Four things have broken. My freezer is now having the same problems as the Kenmore. The freezer shelf now comes off – don’t ask me how – it just does. I no longer can get ice cubes – it crushes everything. On the fridge side of the meat drawer – the track is cracked. Lastly on the floor is a grey piece of plastic to cover the front – that too is broken.
I called Best Buy and they want me pay for a tech to come out – $100 to start! This is brand new fridge! I then called LG, just asking for free parts – I’ll fix it myself. Guess what – they only have a one year warranty! The rep was very nice and is filing a voice of customer complaint. That simply means they’ll review it and see if an exception can be made.
However, who in their right mind would buy something that has FOUR PROBLEMS in the first two years! Fridges are supposed to last ten plus! I’m such an idiot. The plastic on this fridge is CHEAP – the Kenmore was 1000% better made.
While LG’s customer service rep was nice and I did not wait long – it’s their product quality I’m concerned about. Don’t make the same mistake I did. Spend a bit more and get a better brand. It only will take one service call for you to make your money back!

I got this refrigerator a few years ago and the ice maker was broken from the start. That is to say, it worked, but it shot out an ice avalanche that no glass could contain and we got as much ice on our floor and clothing as in the glass. When I called they acted surprised that I found this to be a problem. It took over an hour of talking to people with some difficulty as we were not always speaking the same language, at least as far as I could tell. Then I had to wait 5 months to get the part I needed (because I was told it was “coming over on a boat” which I think must have been a row boat from China). The surface on the door scratches if you brush it with your ponytail and when I tried to fix it with a stainless steel repair kit it looked even worse. Come to find out, for $1200 you don’t actually get stainless steel – it’s a “titanium” finish that essentially cannot be fixed so my doors are now a top to bottom picture/magnet display to cover the ruined finish. This is exactly what I was looking for in my kitchen – classy.

This fridge was included in a condo purchase last year. All has been well except for the ice maker. Three times it has defrosted, spilled over and refrozen, which left big chunks of ice in the bin. So I had to carefully remove the bin and let the ice melt on the counter. In the meantime, I scraped off the little ice falls stuck to the inside walls of the freezer. At first, I thought this issue corresponded to my use of the oven, which is butted up against the fridge. However, the other 2 times, I wasn’t baking. I tested the door seal, which is good, but haven’t tried any other troubleshooting or repairs. I have not had any problems with the finish denting or scratching as other reviewers have mentioned. The filter change reminder is also a nice feature.
I may end up replacing this with a basic apartment-size fridge. Other than the ice maker issue, the LG works fine. But based on this experience my new one will be a different brand.
