What kind of sealer (that doesn’t turn yellow) should I use for wallpaper on wood that’s going to be outside?

I want to use a wallpaper mural outside in my backyard. I would like to put the mural on a piece of primered and painted plywood. This way I can move it or remove it when I want. After the wallpaper mural is put on the painted plywood, I want to seal it for prodection. I just don’t want the sealer to turn yellow over time and ruin the mural. Can someone please help me?

Marine polyurethanes yellow so don’t use these, they may also adversely affect the wallpaper, non yellowing polyurethanes are generally water based and are not suitable for exterior use, I think that if you are looking for longterm exterior protection then you are going to struggle to find anything that will not require a reasonable amount of maintenance as in re coating, the main problem you have is that although modern wallpapers have a certain amount of U.V resistance built into them they are not designed for exterior use and even with a U.V resistant exterior clear finish (which you should be able to get from any good paint supplier) the wallpaper is going to fade and discolor quite quickly.

I think you idea is interesting and creative but I don’t think it would last any length of time and you would just be disappointed in the inevitable results.

This sounds like a really creative idea. Lowes and such sell polyurethane that says ‘non-yellowing’ on the label.

Use some good marine grade polyurethane.
