Product Description
Electric induction elements provide best cook top performance, safety and efficiency. Unlike other electric elements, induction elements provide the precise temperature control of gas burners for gourmet cooking. Turning the dial down, the heat energy to the pan immediately decreases. Magnetic waves have no effect on skin or anything other than iron or steel. If the pan is accidentally removed from the cook top, no more heat is produced. Features ceramic glass surface made in Japan.

This thing is so fantastic. One burner of our electric range broke, and rather than replace it, I bought this. Now it is all we use except when cooking a lot. I even cook pasta and vegetables one at a time, just because this is so much better than the electric range. I would like a full induction range, but they are nearly $2000 for just 4 burners. Four of these things would be only $600! This thing is foolproof and safe! I set the timer and leave and even if the stuff boils over, all I have is a splashed mess that I wipe right up. The food still doesn’t overcook, because the timer turns it off, and nothing burns because the splashed stuff just sits there. On a conventional stove I’d get burning and craziness and if I forgot about what I was cooking I’d burn the house down! Not with this. And the food even seems better because the heat is not as extreme at the bottom of the pot! I seriously am still enthusiastic and impressed after 200+ uses!

My wife and I are doing a kitchen remodel and had to move everything downstairs where we don’t have a full kitchen, so we bought this to have something to cook on.

Things that are awesome: #1 -> Your pot gets hot, but the cooktop doesn’t. So when you take the pot off, there’s nothing hot there anymore, plus it turns off automatically! And if anything boils over, no problem: out of the pot, the surface isn’t hot. (If you’ve ever cleaned up the “bowls” under a normal electric burner, you know how nice this is.) #2 -> the price. We’re getting a full 5-burner induction cooktop upstairs, for over $2500, so we expected not to get much for only $190… but it’s been great! #3 -> It heats up really fast – much like a gas stove, but without the safety issues of gas. #4 -> It’s portable and lightweight! #5 -> It’s larger than it looks in the picture.

Things that aren’t so awesome: #1 -> It doesn’t work with all our old cookware. In particular, it doesn’t work with any of our old teflon stuff, so we’re stuck, for the moment, with no non-stick cooking. #2 -> For big flat pots, the sides of the pot are notably cooler than the center, so my wife can’t cook as many simultaneous turkey-burgers as before…

  3. I wanted just an inductrion cooktop for my RenaWare set but what I got was more than that. It came with a very good 12 inch fry pan with glass lid and complemented my set!!! I ‘ve heen using this cooktop since I got it and I am impressed in the precision of the heat control. I double checked temperature with an infrared thermometer and is in a 2 to 3 degree in the range. I really reccomend the product.

I have been using the above cooktop as my only cooktop for 2 years without any problems. I am a heavy use cook without a decent kitchen and this cooktop was a lifesaver.

Again, 2 years, no problems. Always worked! You can’t beat that.

Just make sure you have induction compatible cookware.

  5. I received the cooktop directly from Sunpentown which is the manufacturer but order through Amazon.com. You need special pots and pans to use this cooktop, otherwise the cooktop just shut itself off due to the safty feature. Well it sounds like a good idea, but buying pots and pans with special magnetic thing is too costly and too much of the hassel for me. Besieds it doesn’t have any description on that matter. Please contact Sunpentown before placeing any order. Otherwise you will have to pay to ship it back and 15 % restocking fee !!
