How can I make a Candle Holder for a tall dining candle, that is durable from the heated wax,?

Okay,so I want to make a gothic candle holder for my Design Tech project it will be something like this:

But it will be made out of RECYCLED MATERIALS
I CAN bring in my own so if something is not too hard to get a hold of,I’l buy it.
The skull base will likely be made out of paper mache,I was wondering if a type of heat resistent/damage protective coating from the heated candle wax could be applied.
Or if there is a better heat-resistent material I can make the skull base out of.

If you make it out of paper mache i would then cover the exterior with foil and then use spray paint made for high heat use (like for grills and stoves, etc). The combination of the two should then be fine for use with a candle.
