Bought a home and it has a large green cable box in the yard. How can I cover up the box aesthetically?

The box is a cube about 4 feet wide on each side. One friend suggested building a latticework box around it. I’m also thinking of maybe some sort of lattice tower with ivy/flowers? I’m clueless how to work with this unsightly eyesore. Help!

Addendum: talked to my electric company today and while I can’t paint it, there are absolutely no regulations in my state restricting me from covering it up or planting around it. I can even plant right up next to it.

i would plant some holly bushes on every side. pretty low maintenance and if you get the right ones they produce berries that birds love to eat. bring some nature to the ‘burbs.

legally you can’t. you can’t paint it, you can’t build a box to cover it – even out of lattice, you can’t do anything – legally.

i do believe that you can plant shrubs around it so long as they are not up against it. if the power company has to get to it they will cut down whatever you’ve planted and you may receive the bill!…so plant but leave room for them to get to it. A small tree would be a great beginning…with some small evergreen hollies around the main box. then if you make it like a flower bed and add some perennials it could become a a focal point rather than an eye-sore.

    hope this helps

Plants flowers around it, however, be aware, that if the cable company has a hard time getting to the box they can charge you an access fee. Or make you move whatever you plant.

Also, if you have a homeowner’s association, you may have to get some type of permission from them for making changes to that “public” area.

    Good luck!

That is exactly what I would do. We have 2 air conditioner units in the front of out house, off to the side. I put lattice in frint of it and now it is covered with ivy and blooming vines. It is really pretty and you can’t even tell that is where the air conditioners are.
