What are the different reasons for wanting a duvet cover, rather than a comforter?

I noticed that duvet covers are usually more expensive than a comforter. They are popular, so I was just wondering what the BIG difference is.

Like everyone has said, it’s because of being able to wash them, also its so you can have different styles/colors in your bedroom without buying a whole new comforter. You could probably make one less money. Wouldn’t take much, just sew 2 sides together and fasten at the top with velcro or buttons.

You can take them off of the comforter (usually down) and wash them.

Duvet covers are like pillowcases for comforters. They’re easy to wash and you don’t wear out your comforter or get it dirty. many comforters are difficult to wash and/or need special cleaning.

Well, you can remove the duvet cover for washing (which is really nice), so they sometimes make the covers out of more expensive/delicate material, because you can remove it to do special cleaning (hand wash or dry cleaning) that you couldn’t do if it was part of a comforter.
