Hi!…I love this x-mas crochet project..and I was wondering if you could or if you have the pattern for the “Dark red” grape/berry hot dish mat that you demostrated..I’ve notice that the circle has pretty patterns, I think there’s crochet puff stitch by the sides of the circle..Since I just love grapes ..I would be happy to get the pattern and make this my next project.. :)
    I love your work!

With this project, each bottle cap motif is connected while it is being made. The actual bottle caps and/or stuffing can be added in after all the motifs are joined and shape is finished.

I did have a video up a year ago for the variegated yarn bottle cap grape but I have removed it because I included background music so I took it down. I will probably do a whole new video.

so, when attaching, we do a ch1, front post sc and ch1 again. but i don’t understand why we do the first six loops with a ch 3 and the last 6 loops with a ch 1.. wouldn’t that make it not the same size?

  13. tjw1963 says:

The last 6 chains and motif you are attaching is the same as a chain 3 but each chain is divided in to three segments to join.
1.First, you chain 1, that counts as the first chain.
2.Next you slip stitch to join, that counts as the second chain.
3.Finally, you chain 1, which counts as the third chain.
You are doing the chain 3 at the same time you are joining and attaching it to the other motif. I do have a diagram on my crochet blog showing the motif placement.

  14. tjw1963 says:

I can see where that part can come across as confusing but it is really the same as the chain 3. I could have done an extra chain but I found that it made it fuller than what I wanted. You can add extra chains if you want to.

  15. teresa688 says:

thank you for clarifying the segments and i understand more now.. can’t wait to try it out.

Can plastic bottle caps be used?

  19. tjw1963 says:

I would not recommend it if you are using it for a hot dish. You can substitute fiberfill instead.

koal bear will be nice in crochet thank you

  22. tjw1963 says:

You can continue to make the tree larger by adding another row of motif and setting them in the same way.
