An American is amazed at a refrigerator that can easily be opened from either side thanks to hinges that automatically lock on either side when the opposite side is opened. I first saw these in Japan about 17 years ago. And no, you can’t pull on both sides and take the door off.

oh, I have a same one. The small part with 3 bottons and a view window has the feature for heating, warming, cooling, makeing freeze, kitchen timer and others.
